Simple Jewelry Care Tips

It is best to keep your jewelry when not being worn in an air-tight container such as a zip lock bag, or at least a closed box or case with an anti-tarnish strip. Leaving it out in the open speeds up the eventual tarnishing process. Also leaving your jewelry out in direct sunlight for prolonged periods can cause the natural color of certain gemstones to fade.

Avoid contact with any chemical substances such as cleaning solutions, hair care products, perfumes, lotions, etc. The chemicals in these products can damage a pearl’s luster and tarnish or otherwise discolor sterling silver. Try to remember to always put your jewelry on last when dressing.

Take your jewelry off before exercising, swimming, bathing/showering or sleeping. Pool chemicals and sea salt will oxidize sterling silver and can damage and pit some gemstones. Even hard water eventually leaves a film that will dull your jewelry over time.

Keep your jewelry sparkling by periodically wiping it with a soft polishing cloth.
